OUR HISTORY

The Parasolka Charity Foundation was founded in 2017 on the initiative of doctor Irina Loseva. She constantly visited children’s hospitals in the Zaporizhzhia region. She was very saddened by the conditions in which children often lived.

That is why the first big thing that started the history of Parasolka was a project initiated by Anton Karnaukh, to raise funds to renovate a ward for newborn orphans in the pediatric department of the Vasylivka District Hospital. Thanks to the efforts of hundreds of caring people, the room where newborns abandoned by their parents live for months was completely renovated and equipped.

The Parasolka Charity Foundation cooperates with the Zatyshna Domivka social support centre for children and families and provides assistance to orphans and children deprived of parental care, aged 18 to 23, who find themselves in difficult life circumstances and are temporarily placed in the centre.

Irina Loseva, the founder and inspiration behind the foundation, has been a member of the jury for the Best Foster Carer of the Year competition for several years. The aim of this competition is to support foster and adoptive families, family-type orphanages, unlock parental and pedagogical potential, organise joint leisure activities, and establish an emotional bond between parents and children.

As the foundation grew, the number of people who needed our support increased. These included families with children with disabilities, low-income families with many children, people with complex illnesses, elderly carers of children and others.

When the war came to Ukraine, the circle of our support expanded significantly, as we had to support the Ukrainian military and families affected by the war.

HELPING THE UKRAINIAN MILITARY AND PEOPLE AFFECTED BY THE WAR

Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, the Parasolka Foundation has focused its main efforts on helping our defenders and civilians affected by russian military aggression.

Since the first day of the war, we have been getting and buying everything we need at the first request of the defence forces or the army.

We raised several million UAH to help the Ukrainian Military.

All of this was spent on thermal imagers, starlinks, power banks, scopes, cameras, radios, drones, vehicles and equipment, equipment, hygiene items, food – everything our defenders needed.

We also purchased expensive equipment for a military hospital and supported the emergency services of Orikhiv and Gulyaypolya.

At the same time, we continued to help people affected by the war. We received tonnes of humanitarian aid from our foreign partners and delivered it to the IDPs. We provided targeted assistance to refugee families. We joined the organisation of catering facilities for IDPs. We helped to restore houses damaged by shelling and collected money for the treatment of victims of the hostilities.

HELPING CHILDREN DEPRIVED OF PARENTAL CARE

The “Parasolka” Fund actively helps orphanages and boarding schools in Zaporizhzhia region.

The cooperation with the Orikhivskyi orphanage continues: at the initiative of the foundation, mattresses and bed linen in children’s bedrooms were updated, a water heater, a heater, various furniture and kitchen utensils were purchased.

And, of course, the benefactors donated hundreds of kilograms of fruit and sweets to the children. In addition, they organised a number of workshops and entertainment events for the children.

HELPING FAMILIES SO THAT CHILDREN CAN LIVE IN FAMILIES

Working with children in shelters gave us the idea to help families in difficult circumstances to prevent children from being placed in boarding schools.

Thus, “Parasolka” Fund took under its patronage several dozen families in which children were raised by single mothers or grandmothers, families with disabled children, and became a regular assistant to the “Zatyshna Domivka” centre, where mothers and children who have suffered from violence live. In addition to ongoing support with food, clothing, and essential goods, we have been implementing larger projects.

For example, we repaired and purchased a washing machine for a family with seven children raised by a blind mother. We overhauled and furnished a dorm room for a single mother who grew up in an orphanage. We even bought a cow for a lonely grandmother with many children. They also installed heating systems and boilers, repaired roofs after fires, bought large appliances, and much else.

HELP FOR HOSPITALS, AND FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR TREATMENT

Large-scale fundraisers for the treatment of children and adults are constantly ongoing.

As a doctor, Irina could not ignore this topic. Probably, the most money was raised for treatment. And we are very happy with all those cases when we managed to help overcome serious illnesses and save lives.

During the six years of the foundation’s work, we continued to help medical institutions: upon request, we bought medical equipment for the 1st Zaporizhzhia Children’s Hospital, Zaporizhzhia Military Hospital, and helped the Onco-Haematology Department of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Children’s Hospital.

We also established cooperation with international foundations, which allowed us to transfer large batches of medicines to hospitals in the occupied territories of Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions during the war.
